In the event of problems/faults in a heating system, you should follow the steps as explained below, before you decide to call a service person. These steps can help to remove the fault in a system without a site visit. Should a visit be necessary, they will assist the service person. You can perform the following actions yourself on heating equipment.
- Check the system water pressure gauge, where fitted. Manufacturers recommend between 0.75 - 1.5 bar
- Check for correct connection to the electricity supply.
- Press "reset" to disable and re-enable the device-if display is blocked (red light, crossed symbol on flame, etc.),
- If the system/device has a programmer, check it is properly programmed
- If it is powered by batteries, check their condition.
If the unit begins to work after this, it should be closely monitored for signs of incorrect functioning – such as water leaks, unusual noises or a smell of exhaust gases.
If anything gives you cause for concern, it is best for your own safety to immediately disable the system/device by disconnecting the electrical supply and turning off the gas supply.
If there are water leaks you should also locate and close any stop valves/taps. You should then call a service professional.

1. Find the name of the manufacturer and model of the system/device. This information can be found in the manual or on a plate on the system/device. If this is not possible, it would assist if you could indicate the approximate year of manufacture of the system/device.
2. Please give, as far as it is possible, an exact description of the fault Such information will significantly help the service person to define the scope / cost / repair time.
